Troubleshooting
Review a full hosting account
Find large directories and free space without deleting important website or mail data.
Recognize the symptoms
A full account can interfere with uploads, mail, backups, and application writes. Check the service's usage information and open cPanel's Disk Usage tool to investigate directories. Usage figures can take time to reflect recent changes.
Review likely causes
Look for old backup archives, large logs, abandoned staging copies, and unnecessary files. Use File Manager to inspect a directory before removing anything. Databases and mail can also contribute to usage; manage them through the appropriate tools.
Clean up safely
Download needed backups to protected off-server storage before removing redundant copies. Keep an agreed retention policy. Do not delete database directories, active mail folders, application configuration, or unknown system files to gain space. Remember that files moved to Trash may continue using space until they are permanently removed.
Verify and escalate
Recheck usage after cleanup and test the operation that failed. If the account remains near its limit, contact support about the largest directories and your plan's capacity. Creating another on-account backup may fail while space is exhausted.
