cPanel essentials
Choose a PHP version for your website
Change the selected domain’s PHP version and verify application compatibility.
Prepare for the change
Record the current PHP version and make a current website and database backup. Check your application's supported PHP versions first. Choose an installed, supported version rather than assuming a version shown in another provider's guide is available here.
Change the domain setting
- Open cPanel and search for MultiPHP Manager.
- Select the checkbox for the intended domain.
- Choose the desired entry from PHP Version.
- Select Apply.
An inherited setting uses the server default. Available versions are controlled by the server administrator. PHP-FPM configuration can also depend on server permissions and shared document roots.
Verify and recover
Test the home page, administration area, forms, and any payment or scheduled tasks. If the application fails, restore the previous PHP selection and ask the application maintainer about compatibility. Do not repeatedly switch versions without recording the result. If the expected version is unavailable, contact hosting support.
