cPanel essentials
Create a database for a website
Use the database wizard to create a database, a user, and the permissions your application needs.
Before creating a database
Check whether the application installer has already created one. You need a hosting plan with database access and the application's database requirements. Menu labels can vary between MySQL Database Wizard and Database Wizard.
Create and connect
- Open the database wizard in cPanel.
- Enter the new database name and continue.
- Create a database user with a unique password.
- Assign that user to the database and select the privileges required by the application.
- Record the complete database and user names shown by cPanel, including any account prefix.
Use these values in the application's protected configuration. Confirm its required database hostname with your hosting instructions rather than guessing. Never place database passwords in public files or screenshots.
Test the connection
Run the application's connection test or installation step. If it fails, recheck the full names, the assigned user permissions, and the hostname. Changing a password without updating the application will break its connection. Keep a database backup before making schema or data changes.
